An acoustical study of Korean monophthongs produced by male and female speakers.

چکیده
(Received 21 August 1990; accepted for publication 29 November 1991) The first three formants of the ten Korean monophthongs were studied. The vowels were produced by 20 male and female speakers in an |hVd A | (V = vowel) context. Then the malefemale variations in the Korean formant data were examined. The uniform scaling method resulted in less than a 6% difference between the scaled and reference data. A regression analysis showed that the slope of a regression equation with a small intercept near the origin could be used for the uniform scale factor.

Subglottal resonances of adult male and female native speakers of American English.
This paper presents a large-scale study of subglottal resonances (SGRs) (the resonant frequencies of the tracheo-bronchial tree) and their relations to various acoustical and physiological characteristics of speakers. The paper presents data from a corpus of simultaneous microphone and accelerometer recordings of consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words embedded in a carrier phrase spoken by 25 ma...
متن کاملA comparative study of American English and Korean vowels produced by male and female speakers
F 1 – F 3 and f 0 of 10 Korean vowels and 13 American English vowels produced by 10 male and 10 female speakers of each language group were studied while holding dialectal factors as homogeneous as possible in each group . Withinand across-language comparisons of the collected data revealed considerable variation in vocal tract length between male and female speakers and between Korean and Amer...
متن کاملHow different are the monophthongs of Malay speakers of Malaysian and Singapore English?
Early works on Singapore and Malaysian English used to consider them as a single homogeneous entity based on their shared history as previous British colonies. However, since 1965, both Malaysia and Singapore have been independent from each other. It is interesting to investigate, some four decades post-independence, how different the English speech patterns of Malaysians and Singaporeans have ...
متن کاملReduced efficiency of audiovisual integration for nonnative speech.
The role of visual cues in native listeners' perception of speech produced by nonnative speakers has not been extensively studied. Native perception of English sentences produced by native English and Korean speakers in audio-only and audiovisual conditions was examined. Korean speakers were rated as more accented in audiovisual than in the audio-only condition. Visual cues enhanced word intell...
متن کاملAcoustic evidence for dynamic formant trajectories in Australian English vowels.
The extent to which it is necessary to model the dynamic behavior of vowel formants to enable vowel separation has been the subject of debate in recent years. To investigate this issue, a study has been made on the vowels of 132 Australian English speakers (male and female). The degree of vowel separation from the formant values at the target was contrasted to that from modeling the formant con...
